Supported by the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), India is bringing to Africa low-cost housing technologies which may change the rural scenery in some countries. According to experts, India is transferring both its technologies and experience in cost-effective building materials suitable for low cost housing. The technology will be exhibited by the Building Material and Technology Promotion Council of India at this year’s Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, opening 30 June to 9 July, an official of the Indian High Commission in Dar es Salaam said Tuesday. He explained that the focus of the exhibition will be on simple machines and equipment developed in India for manufacturing materials for house construction in villages and in medium size settlements. The Indian technology centres on the promotion of innovative composite materials based on local forestry, agriculture and industrial waste material.
