IMSA Ponders Spanish Fiberglass Factory

Mexican steelmaker IMSA will begin marketing fiberglass sheeting in Spain and exporting the product from Spain to France, Italy and other European countries, said Benjamin Clariond, director of IMSA subsidiary Imsatec. The plan is reportedly a joint venture with Spanish company Uralita. Clariond said the first phase in the project would be marketing and distribution of the fiberglass sheeting in Europe, after which IMSA would determine whether to build a manufacturing plant in Spain, in partnership with a European company. “Our decision to enter the market in that way will depend on the acceptance of the product after we begin selling it,” he said.
