The Huntsman Advanced Materials designer Andrej Justin and the team from Carbon Innovation Ltd who crafted the boat, less than a month after it first set sail, the ‘CODE8’, the new One Design carbon racing yacht has competed in and won the Keszthely-Kenese Regatta, a non-stop  solo sailing race across Lake Balaton in Hungary.

According to Huntsman, the ‘CODE8’ competed against 27 other participants to complete the 74km race in 8 hours, coming in 40 minutes before the boat in second place and 8 hours and 45 minutes before the final competitor crossed the finish line.

Tamas Simon, Managing Director at Carbon Innovation explains how the optimisation of the ‘CODE8’s’ design was pivotal to success on the day, “We are delighted that the ‘CODE8’ has triumphed with such an impressive victory.  Our aim was to construct a new One Design carbon racing yacht to the highest standard.  The application of Huntsman’s products and systems creates several advantages for the ‘CODE8’.  Due to its light weight, the performance of the racing yacht is enhanced and the strength of its water tight, weather resistant bonds adds to the high quality of its design and construction.  The technologies selected fit perfectly with the harsh demands of an endurance race such as Keszthely-Kenese.”

Huntsman say that thanks to the toughness, high quality surface finish and dimensional accuracy provided by the selected systems and products, the team at Carbon Innovation achieved their design ambitions on every level, creating a yacht that utilises state-of-the-art processes and materials comparable with those used in America’s Cup yacht construction and fit out.

The ‘CODE8’ is due to compete in the Centomiglia at Lake Garda on 10th September as well as the TBS cup at Lake Balaton on 23rd September and the Barcolana on 9th October.
