Huntsman will be showcasing materials from its Araldite branded portfolio for the automotive sector at Composites Europe in September.

Materials will include those for designs and prototypes, parts manufacturing and organic protective solutions. Huntsman say that as auto manufacturers have increasingly turned to lightweight composites that maintain vehicle strength and stiffness, reduce weight and support greater design freedom and flexibility, their products are now playing a ubiquitous role in an ever-growing market.

The company has recently been involved in a number of innovative applications of composites in the automotive industry, including:
? The ‘U-Box’; demonstrating the possibilities of building an electric concept car using sustainable components. Huntsman say they researched and developed products used in each stage of the car’s construction, from toughened, halogen free and fire resistant resins, to flexible composite, state-of-the-art thin barrier coatings for OLEDs and composite bonders.
? An Araldite resin system especially adapted for ‘RTM-Lambo’; a cost effective out-of-autoclave technique developed to produce Lamborghini’s first production carbon fibre chassis.
? A toughened Araldite system to design a composite wheel for the high-performance vehicle market with better impact resistance than metal wheels and higher fatigue resistance.
? A composite fuel tank developed by MCS using an Araldite hot curing epoxy system, designed to provide lightweight benefits, high fuel capacity and the durability required for use by performance and endurance vehicles.
