Hitco Captures New Defense & Aerospace Contracts

Hitco Carbon Composites has been awarded 3 new contracts worth a total of $26 million.

The company will provide the Atlas V Nose Fairing to Aerojet (Sacramento, CA) that will ultimately be part of the Lockheed Martin Atlas 5 Launch Vehicle. There are from 1 to 5 solid rocket motors (SRM) per launch vehicle that require the large nose fairings that provide protection and air stream flow for the forward end of each SRM. The Atlas V launch vehicle will compete with Boeing’s Delta 4 for satellite launch business. This award places HITCO on both “”heavy launch”” vehicles produced by U.S. manufacturers.

Hitco will continue its fifty year association with the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company as a supplier by producing the F-22 Inlet Lip Assembly for the Ft. Worth, Texas facility’s F-22 super-fighter aircraft that replaces the U.S. Air Force’s aging fleet of F-15 fighters. This aircraft is the world’s first “”stealth”” air-to-air fighter, and is the first production aircraft with the ability to cruise at supersonic speeds without the use of afterburners. There are 2 Inlet Lip Assemblies per aircraft, which are the structures that make up the engine air intake. Initial F-22 deliveries begin this year and continue through 2004. The F-22 is expected to be in production well into the next decade.

Hitco will also provide multi-layered thermal and acoustic insulation panels for use in aircraft cabin comfort systems for corporate and commercial aircraft to Flight Environments of Paso Robles, CA.

Developed jointly by teams from both companies, these panels provide an innovative acoustic solution toward dampening aircraft cabin noise.

“”Winning so many major programs in such a short period of time is a first for HITCO and is a very rare accomplishment in an industry that has become brutally competitive over the last five years,”” remarked Paul Pendorf, President of HITCO. “”We owe our success to our dedicated teams of HITCO employees who work tirelessly to provide our customers with outstanding technical assistance and cost proposals that give the best value to our customers. We will continue our 80 year tradition of providing the highest quality products and service,”” he concluded.
