Hexcel has obtained an A350 XWB Fuselage Test Panel to display at the Paris Air Show 2011 this week.
Hexcel explain that the panel, provided by the Composite Technology Centre (CTC), Stade, Germany, was manufactured using automated fibre placement technique with their HexPly M21E slit tape prepreg reinforced with HexTow IMA carbon fibre. CTC, a subsidiary of Airbus, is the carbon fibre competence centre for Airbus Germany and a major technology driver for the A350 XWB.
They will also display parts made using HexMC, qualified for use on commercial aircraft including window frames, brackets, fittings, gussets, clips/cleats, intercostals, pans and static guide vanes, as well as outlet guide vanes for the GE-Honda HF120 turbofan and an ultra light antenna reflector for a communications satellite, manufactured by Astrium, that uses HexPly M18 prepreg.
