Chinese company Hengshen has signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the supply of carbon fibre prepreg to Bombardier.

This agreement enables Hengshen prepreg to enter the formal material qualification programme. Successful completion of the qualification programme will allow Hengshen prepreg to enter commercial production on components for Bombardier aircraft. According to Hengshen, it is the first Chinese carbon fibre manufacturer to enter the prepreg supply chain of a major overseas aircraft OEM.

“We started discussions with Bombardier in 2015, and continuously worked towards carbon fibre prepreg qualification,” says Qian Jing, the Board Chairman of Hengshen. “We are pleased that this major milestone has been reached. Hengshen’s strength has proven to the whole composite industry that our carbon fibre prepreg can stand the test of the competitive market, from material performance to production capacity.”

In recent years, Bombardier has tested a range of prepreg provided by Hengshen. The results proved that Hengshen prepreg could meet Bombardier’s requirements on material performance and consistency.

“This agreement will help to speed up development and further strengthen our core competence,” Qian Jing states. “Hengshen supplying prepregs to the international composite market proves that Chinese carbon fibre is truly established, which signifies the arrival of a new era in the carbon fibre industry.”
