Gibson Fiberglass and Reichhold Price Increases

Both Gibson Fiberglass and Reichhold will be increasing their prices over the coming weeks.

Gibson Fiberglass Price Changes

Gibson Fiberglass will implement a price increase of $.05 to $.08 per pound for all fibreglass materials, including direct and multi-end roving products, chopped strands for BMC and thermoplastics, chopped strand mat, woven roving, and all other roll goods. The increase applies to all shipments delivered on or after July 1, 2010.

According to Joe Peng, President of Gibson fiberglass, “Freight costs have continued to increase as freight carriers try to recover from a drop in profitability below investment levels last year due to decreased demand.”

Gibson also announced supply constraints are being implemented for assembled rovings, including SMC, Panel, and Gun Rovings. “Gibson/Jushi opened a new 70,000 MT furnace the first of this year. This gives us additional capacity for single end direct roving, BMC and thermoplastic chopped strands. However, the significant increase in demand for assembled rovings has exceeded our capacity for SMC, panel and gun roving. ” said Peng.

Increase on Dion and Hydrex Vinyl Ester Resins

Reichhold will make a further €300/tonne price increase effective for all Vinyl Ester Resins and any other product containing Liquid Epoxy Resin (LER) shipped on or after June 14, 2010 in Europe.

“”This price action is nearly exclusively driven by the continuing sharp price increases applied by all suppliers of LER over the past few months as a result of very tight availability of its key feedstock raw materials. The impact on the raw material cost of all Vinyl Ester Resins and other Products based on LER is so significant that it requires an immediate specific price adjustment,”” said Alberto Piccinotti, Reichhold commercial vice president, Composites EMEA.
