Gearing Scientifics continued commitment to expansion has recently seen the addition of a new purpose built lab in Ashwell, North Herts.

The facility was purpose-built to accommodate a range of thermal conductivity test apparatus, including the fox 50-300c from Lasercomp.

Gearing Scientific say that they can now cover a temperature range from a mean of -10°C to +250°C for solid composite materials or up to 150/200°C for liquid resins etc. Vacuum panels can be measured up to 150°C mean or 80°C according to their size.

The DMA can cover glass transitions Tg and melts Tm on liquid resins or fully or part cured composite samples in air or N2 gas or up to 150°C in oils or solvents (if safe to do so).

When testing the nano- or micro-indentation or -scratch resistance of composites, Gearing Scientifics use the latest UltraNanoHardness tester from CSM Instruments, as well as their range of scratch testers and tribological apparatus for wear studies in oils or air, or under vacuum to 800°C.

The new lab facility will serve a dual purpose, as it will also act as a demonstration facility for Lasercomp Inc. of the USA.
