Galorath Inc. has released a new version of its cost design software with a focus on analysing the costs of composite materials and processes.
Galorath Incorporated, a provider of advanced modelling tools for project estimation, planning and project control has completed the latest version of SEER-DFM software, a cost designer tool for parts, process, and assembly, allowing design engineers to produce reliable estimates for manufacturing costs as well as design and producibility guidance to achieve the most efficient and affordable designs possible.
Version 5.1 adds a new model for analyzing the costs of composite materials and manufacturing processes, called Detailed Composites.
“”SEER-DFM now provides the ultimate in modelling capabilities for composite estimation,”” said Karen McRitchie, vice president of development. “”With three approaches to modelling composites, ranging from quick trade studies to the most sophisticated, state-of-the-art aerospace models, Galorath provides the best and most comprehensive composite process modelling capabilities available anywhere.””
SEER-DFM now offers three ways to model composites:
The standard SEER-DFM Composites model estimates the costs of composite techniques requiring minimum inputs. This method is useful for quick, high-level trade study analysis; for example, performing a quick comparison of using metal vs. composites or deciding whether hand lay up is more appropriate than spraying. The Composites model supports the Lay-up, Filament Winding, Pultrusion and Composite Spray methods.
The new Detailed Composites model provides a richer, more flexible modelling environment that can be used for detailed trade and design study analysis. Part shapes can be described in detail, including build-ups and cores, materials and resins, the material cutting process, the bagging process, consumable materials, hot-ply forming, curing, and trimming. Tooling manufacture costs and inspection costs using non-destructive testing techniques can be modelled. The Detailed Composites model supports the following operations/methods: Hand Lay-up (HLU), Automated Tape Lay (ATL), Resin Transfer Molding (ATM), Liquid Resin Infusion (LRI), Resin File Infusion (RFI).
Galorath’s Composite Affordability Initiative (CAI) model, which is sold separately as an add-in to SEER-DFM, provides the most detailed and flexible modelling environment. This model is aerospace-focused, and offers state-of-the-art composites modelling. The CAI plug-in includes Composites Operations, Cure and Trim. Each of these three is treated as a distinct work element type, providing a great level of detail and modelling flexibility. The CAI plug-in also includes non-composite models: Fitup, Drill Operations, Fasten, Paste Bond, E-Beam Assembly, 3-D Reinforcement, Sheet Metal and SPF/DB.
Version 5.1 of SEER-DFM is available now with an annual, unlimited use site license beginning at $29,500.
