Market and technical intelligence from Future Materials Group has enabled Japanese client Sumitomo Bakelite to conclude its 100% acquisition of Vaupell.
According to Future Materials, the acquisition of US based Vaupell for over $265 million concluded earlier this month, making it one of the most significant deals in the composites and plastics sector in 2014. It says that material science specialist Sumitomo Bakelite is one of the largest providers of thermoset materials in the world, with an extensive portfolio including a large range of phenolic and epoxy resins and other compounds.
It describes Vaupell as the market leader in aircraft interior subassemblies and airframe components, saying it is a Tier 1 supplier to Boeing and other aerospace subcontractors. Based in Seattle US, Vaupell is evolving from a specialist moulder into a complete composite parts integrator, supplying lightweight finished interior parts that meet the required demanding performance regulations.
The strategic acquisition of Vaupell will allow Sumitomo Bakelite to extend its High Performance Plastic (HPP) division from its leading position in automotive components, into the dynamic aircraft interiors market.
Future Materials Group has been working closely over several years with Sumitomo Bakelite to define the company’s strategy for growth, and to deliver acquisition assistance.
