The European FP7 Research Project, Polyfire, will be holding a free to attend workshop in Brussels on Friday 31st August, 2012.

The Polyfire project was established to develop and scale-up techniques for processing halogen-free, flame retardant nanocomposite materials and coatings based on unsaturated polyester resins and organomodified clays. The project focused on developing turn-key solutions that could be easily integrated into industrial companies, in particular SMEs in Western and Eastern Europe, thereby ensuring maximum impact and benefit to the European community.

The project is coming to a close and will be holding the workshop to highlight work achieved during the project and the results that it obtained, as well as opportunities for emerging future industrial applications. The programme includes:

  • Polyfire project introduction,
  • New organomodified clays: The One Pot method,
  • New ways of dispersing organo-modified clays,
  • Case study for railways and fire tests,
  • Coating with intumescent systems containing organo-modified clays,
  • Health and Environment assessment from nanoparticle emissions,
  • Conclusions and outlook,
  • Final discussion on scientific, technological and potential commercial opportunities.

Project Coordinator NetComposites, along with partners Laviosa Chimica Mineraria, Fundacion Gaiker, YTRON Process Technology, Scott Bader, IRIS Vernici, APC Composite, FEPS, Sheffield Hallam University, Fundacion Tecnalia, and Procoat, are hoping that this workshop will contribute toward establishing contacts with industry and other parties involved in the field of new sustainable flame retarded unsaturated polyester resin applications.
