Formaplex has been awarded three major certifications, adding to the ISO 9001 and UKAS management systems, already in place.
According to Formaplex, TS 16949: 2009 is the most prestigious award within the automotive industry, gaining accreditation is testament to their commitment of supplying quality assured products, such as interior and exterior moulded components to OEM’s and Tier 1 suppliers.
It explains that its recent audit by Bentley Motors achieved an outstanding Grade A status, VW Formel Q certification, satisfying the most stringent conditions. This approval will raise their profile within the Volkswagen Group, gaining approval from Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda and Ducati.
Its third major certification secured this year is AS9100C for manufacturing and machining composite components for aerospace, defence and space industries. With a strong history for manufacturing complex composite and aluminium components, achieving the AS9100C accreditation will increase its business potential and further its approval within the sectors. The award is an acknowledgement of its complete quality management systems and underscores its ability to manufacture products to meet customer and regulatory requirements. A NADCAP level 8 climate controlled clean room has recently been approved and a new Maroso 6m x 3m autoclave for curing large composite components supports its manufacturing capacity for existing and potential customers within aerospace, defence, automotive and motorsport industries.
Formaplex says its policy of continuous improvement keeps it at the forefront of advanced technology. This year’s investments already include new FTP Raid and Belloti 5 axis CNC milling machines for precision engineering of tooling and large composite and aluminium components, such as wing structures, up to 4m in length. Formaplex says the additional machinery has increased production capacity which already extends to 24/7 operations to meet time critical delivery schedules. The company’s impressive plant list includes 40 CNC milling machines and 11 injection mould presses ranging from 3500t – 55t, with 6 axis and 3 axis robots.
Another recent investment is a new ‘state of the art’ Dea Global measuring machine for the metrology department, providing dimensional inspection of mechanical components with tight tolerances, complex geometries and free form surfaces.
