ACMA provided a great platform to celebrate Jushi / Gibson Fiberglass’ recent work in environmental awareness, allowing both companies to join in with the trend of recently announced eco initiatives.
At last week’s show, Ron Adams, Vice President of Technical Sales for Gibson Fiberglass, presented a formal agreement between Jushi and Gibson to continue the company’s efforts to reduce waste and pollution.
Adam’s relayed information regarding the production of E6 Enhanced Glass Fiber, which is said to results in zero sulphur dioxide emissions, and wastes no water. The announcement highlights a commitment to environmentally friendly manufacturing dating back as early as 1997.
The alliance promises a continued commitment to investing in waste and power reduction. In the last five years, Jushi Group has spent more than $300million (U.S.) in developing environmental protection facilities and a further $30million (U.S.) on implementing and running waste saving schemes in all of Jushi’s three manufacturing plants.
These schemes include management systems that are said to completely eradicate fibreglass waste (using any loss as the raw material for the production of C-glass), a water salvaging scheme, and the use of excess furnace heat to dry rovings.
Gibson/ Jushi report that these new initiatives have lowered energy consumption by 40% between 2005-2008, which translates to a saving of 120,000 tons of standard coal at their Tongxiang production base alone.
The figures revealed by Ron Adams illustrate a positive return on investments made in economical technologies and further strengthen the company’s’ position in the market, as well as serving as an example to manufacturing worldwide.
In 2008, Jushi Group was recognized as one of “China’s 2008 Leading Enterprise for Energy Saving and Emission Reduction,”” for their commitment to sustainability and energy reduction.
