Farnborough International enjoyed yet another busy day for business as Airbus, Thales Defence Ltd, Sukhoi and a host of other companies chose the second trade day of the show to announce over $10bn dollars worth of contracts and options.

The UK Govt. Secretary of State for Defence, Geoff Hoon, visited the show in time to name Thales Defence Ltd as the preferred bidder for the $1.496bn watchkeeper (unmanned aerial vehicles) programme. The technology represents the central element of the UK’s current plans for acquiring UAVs.

Speaking at Farnborough International, Geoff Hoon said: “Farnborough is an important event in the defence calendar and I am pleased to be here to give my support to the defence industry. Today’s decision marks an important step for this hugely significant military programme.”

Monday 19th July saw Farnborough International welcome 20,000 industry guests. The show expects over 300,000 public and trade guests throughout the week.
