BMW has selected Exel Composites as a technology partner to develop next generation carbon fibre reinforced parts for passenger cars.
BMW has been investing in the development of lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles for a number of years and Exel claims it is the first car-manufacturer using carbon fibre technologies for serial production in their i3 and i8 models.
According to Exel, the co-operation agreement covers the development and delivery of complex carbon and carbon/glass hybrid profiles for automotive applications. The value of the agreement is not disclosed. “We are extremely pleased to start co-operation with BMW. It is in line with our growth strategy to penetrate new applications and market segments. Exel Composites has a long and successful history in the development of innovative high-quality products for example the transportation industry. I am confident that the co-operation will be beneficial to both parties,” says Mr. Kari Loukola, SVP Sales and Marketing of Exel Composites.
