Evonik Presents Acrylic-Based Foam Core at JEC World 2018

Evonik Industries will introduce its new ROHACRYL acrylic-based structural foam core material technology at JEC World.

ROHACRYL foam core material is said to deliver excellent mechanical properties and is thermally stable, lightweight, easy to shape and environmentally friendly.

The new foam is the latest product from the Performance Foams Product Line, the business that provides high performance ROHACELL PMI foam. Its structural core material products are used in markets that include aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical technology, and sports equipment. ROHACRYL represents Evonik’s next step in expanding its product offerings to customers in the composites market around the world.

Driving initial development of ROHACRYL was the wind energy industry’s trend toward increasingly longer turbine blades that must meet demanding requirements. Ideally, materials used in blade production should be lightweight while providing both higher mechanical properties and an ability to remain stable when cured at high temperatures. Multiple material solutions in the market offered either high mechanical properties or withstood a high curing temperature, but not until the introduction of ROHACRYL foam has a core material offered both in a single product, Evonik reports.

A shaped ROHACRYL foam core will be on display on the stand.
