Evonik Industries is now offering polyphthalamide Vestamid HTplus for use as a thermoplastic matrix for composites, in powder, granulate, or film form.
Polyphthalamide (PPA) is known for its performance and mechanical properties at high temperatures, and Evonik has developed a PA10T-based copolyamide as a matrix for composites, with very low viscosity to ensure good fibre impregnation. According to Evonik, it has lower water absorption, and therefore better dimensional and hydrolytic stability, than PA6T. With a glass transition temperature of 125°C and a processing window around 300°C, Vestamid HTplus is intended for use in composite parts with carbon, glass, or aramid fibres, in the aviation and automotive sectors.
The material is available in the form of granules, as a powder of mean particle size 50 µm, and a film for those wishing to produce composite parts from a film.

In addition to polyphthalamide, Evonik also has two further materials for thermoplastic composites – PEEK Vestakeep and the polyamide 12 Vestamid L. The company has combined information on these and on its wide range of other products for production of composite parts, such as crosslinkers, additives, and Rohacell rigid foam, in a single brochure.
