A unique new event in the composites calendar, Composites Europe 2005, will take place on 6-7 October 2005 in Barcelona with its focus on transferring innovative composites research into commercial applications.

The conference, subtitled Composites Innovation and Routes to Market, has been devised by NetComposites to create new bridges between research and industry and facilitate the exploitation of high-quality European research. With the aim of bringing together academia, researchers, industry and support organisations, the conference breaks new ground by presenting the best quality research and technical innovations alongside detailed case studies and guidance on how to effectively transfer these new technologies into commercial applications. The audience will learn about the experiences of start-up companies, technology licensees and those providing funds, alongside the latest innovations and research.

The event is specifically designed to appeal to an audience from all application sectors, offering an ideal opportunity to stimulate and facilitate technology transfer between industries.

Speaking on the reasons behind initiating the event, Dr Sue Halliwell, NetComposites’ Technology Transfer Manager and the event organiser said “”There are many conferences in the composites calendar that are either technology or sector focused, but this event is unique by providing an effective forum for demonstrating how the best quality new research and technology can be effectively transferred into commercial applications. The conference will appeal to the whole supply chain across all industry sectors, so it is expected that the audience will be broad in background to enable efficient technology transfer between industries and promote improved communication between researchers and end-users.””

The 2-day event is structured to mirror the development cycle, with 4 sequential sessions covering innovative research, applied development, industrial application and commercial exploitation. All aspects relating to the development and commercialisation of composites will be included, and the following are examples of the types of issues to be covered:

Day 1: Session 1: Innovative Research
Day 1: Session 2: Applied Development

Day 2: Session 1: Industrial Application
Day 2: Session 2: Commercial Exploitation

Keynote presentations by major industry figures will set the scene for each of the sessions, and a comprehensive exhibition will run alongside the two-day event.

High-quality papers are invited for each of the four main themes of the conference, and authors are invited to submit an extended abstract of about 500 words via e-mail in word or PDF before 30 April 2005. For further details and to download the Call for Papers programme, click here
