A European partnership is developing a new online tool to guide users in the selection of appropriate composite materials and processes, as well as their comparative costs.
The project, Agent-Based Engineering in a Cost-Estimation Model for Composites (E-Comp), is a partnership managed by Barcelona-based research company CRIC and involves seven other project partners including NetComposites.
The main aims of the project are to create a web based tool to assist composite manufacturers, designers and engineers in developing new products, by optimizing processes, equipment and material selection.
The tool will provide a cost estimation model for composites, providing users with a sufficient knowledge base to resolve problems and assist decision-making in composite cost issues.
The project partners will be working over the next 18 months to complete the project which is currently in the process of formulating the overall structure and design of the system. To ensure that the system will ultimately have the most useful impact, CRIC is asking companies in the composites supply chain to complete a short questionnaire to help direct and shape the project scope.
