Can you engineer a contraption that can aim accurately and shoot a 35 kg barrel over 200 meters or more? Universities and technical educational establishments throughout the world are hereby invited to participate in a competition for the construction and testing of a catapult of composite material.
The competition will be held over 3 days (July 2002). The catapult should be built of pultruded E-glass reinforced standard off-the-shelf composite profiles. All the elastic energy of the catapult should come from these pultruded profiles. The use of steel bolts and fittings is allowed. The catapult should have wheels for transportation; choice of material is free. The projectiles will be standard 35 kg plastic barrels filled with water. Minimum length of throw for qualification should be 200 m, which would be further than the shot of an archer.
The catapult must be operated, loaded or controlled by a maximum of 6 persons. The geometric design is free. The maximum weight of the contraption is 1.000 kg.
All submissions are due before May 31st of 2001. For more information on EPTA and its activities, please visit
