EDO has received a contract from Lockheed Martin for the fabrication of advanced-composite structures for the F-35 Lightning II aircraft program.
The composite structures being produced by EDO will serve to ensure low-observable, or stealth, properties, while maintaining smooth aerodynamic flow.
“This is a significant contract for EDO because it allows us to demonstrate our composite-materials technology and engineering capabilities to Lockheed Martin and the Department of Defense,” said James M. Smith, EDO’s chief executive officer. “Having a qualified facility meeting Lockheed Martin’s strict requirements will also improve our competitive position for additional composite structures.”
The contract is for components for 14 aircraft, valued at $1.8 million with delivery scheduled to be completed by December 2008.
