Andreas Echtermeyer, of DNV, was honoured at the 4th International Conference on Composite Materials for the Offshore Operations in Houston earlier this month.
He received an award in “Recognition of outstanding technical contribution, leadership and dedication in advancing composites engineering and application for petroleum exploration and production” from the University of Houston.
In presenting the award, dr. Mamadouh Salama, ConocoPhillips, stated: “The contribution of Echtermeyer and DNV has been crucial for the development and qualification of a composite riser.”
Andreas Echtermeyer has been working with fibre reinforced plastics for years and has developed knowledge at the forefront within this technology. He was also project manager for the work leading to a DNV Recommended Practise within this field in 2003.
The first riser of this composite was installed at the Heidrun field on the Norwegian continental shelf two years ago, and this riser has proved to work very well, thanks to the work carried out by Echtermeyer, among others.
