For this year’s JEC, Dieffenbacher will focus on progressive line concepts for the production of lightweight car body parts for the automotive industry, presenting the PreformCenter for fully-automated production of 3D preforms made of carbon fibres.

According to Dieffenbacher, the PreformCenter realises short cycle times in preform production. From feeding the textile prepreg made from carbon fibres over the precise cut and binder application, to the provision of the dry, dimensionally stable 3D preform, the complete process is fully-automated, and is a process secure handling technique. As part of a complete production line in the high pressure RTM process, Dieffenbacher explain that the PreformCenter is configurable for both use in large and small batch production. Besides the preform production, the HP-RTM line also includes the compression process as well as the related finishing steps of the finished lightweight components. Dieffenbacher delivers the turnkey HP-RTM line.

In addition, Dieffenbacher is presenting their SMC direct line. This direct process for producing thermoset material (D-SMC) enables a less expensive semi-finished product production. For the development of this process, Dieffenbacher was awarded the innovation prize of the Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe in 2011.
