The Diaphorm Division of Solectria has been awarded a five-year, $3 million Cooperative Agreement by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory to investigate the use of proprietary Diaphorm composite preforming technology for military applications.

The stated goals of this program include proof-of-concept of prototype systems, extensive testing and property testing of composite laminates made using the Diaphorm technology, incorporating these parts into a demonstrator military component, and investigating the feasibility of production scale-up.

“”We are pleased with this research opportunity to demonstrate how our proprietary DIAPHORM technology can greatly lower the cost of composite parts — both structural and armor related — and the weight of the vehicle into which they are integrated, while substantially improving overall part quality and performance,”” said Vasilios Brachos, engineering and operations manager of the Diaphorm division.

This contract represents part of a broader expansion of the Diaphorm division as it moves forward in developing materials and processes for a wide range of defense and commercial applications, in addition to creating products for the automotive and sporting goods industries. Full information on Diaphorm’s engineering services and expertise as a composite molder may be found at Diaphorm’s newly launched website.
