Diab’s Divinycell core materials have been used in the construction of Brødrene Aa’s carbon fibre catamaran Rygerdronningen.
Following on from the award-winning Vision of the Fjords and its sister-ship Future of the Fjords, Rygerdronningen was constructed for Rødne Fjord Cruise. It will take tourists on sustainable sightseeing tours through the famed Lysefjord in Rogaland, Norway.
With a top speed of 19.9 knots, the new catamaran is 37 m long, 10 m wide and has room for 297 passengers. To achieve its ultra-lightweight displacement, Rygerdronningen was built using carbon fibre sandwich technology and vacuum infusion. The sandwich panels are made using Divinycell core material products from H60 up to H200 in 30-60 mm thickness.
Divinycell H range is closed-cell IPN structural foam. It is particularly suited for marine applications due to its high strength to weight ratio and durability.
Rødne Fjord Cruise has bought 19 vessels from Brødrene during the past 50 years and was a partner in the development project which led to the first commercial carbon fibre boat, Rygerdoktoren, in 2001.
“Rødne has been a pioneer of environmentally-friendly carbon fibre vessels and it is very pleasing to us that the shipping company now has received carbon fibre vessel number 12, which is also the biggest so far,” says Tor Øyvin Aa.
