To meet the sustained worldwide increase in demand for its Divinycell ®, Klegecell ® and ProBalsa ® sandwich core materials, DIAB has recently completed a capital investment programme in excess of 10 M USD at its three production plants in Laholm, Sweden, Longarone, Italy and DeSoto, Texas. The programme has included a complete new press line at Laholm, which came on stream earlier this year, significant production streamlining of the Longarone and DeSoto units and additional facilities for foam core processing into sheets and finished core ‘kits’ at all three locations. These improvements have not only enabled DIAB to achieve a 40% increase in production capacity but have also allowed the company to enhance quality, the working environment and environmental protection. Commenting on the investment programme, Bo Ljungberg, President of the DIAB Group, said, “We see a tremendous growth in the use of sandwich technology, by the Marine, Wind Energy and Public Transportation markets in particular, and we are committed to meeting their demand for affordable, high performance cores. Although the investment programme has increased our foam core capacity by about 40% over the past two years, this is by no means the end of our expansion programme. Already plans are well advanced to further expand and streamline our worldwide production capabilities in order to keep pace with the continuously growing demand for our products and services. ” -” In particular we see a rapid growth in the demand for semi-finished ‘kits’, whereby the customer outsources to DIAB all the foam core processing, including Quality Control. Our vision for the future is that customers will transmit their orders and complete drawings via the Internet and we will supply the CAD/CAM shaped foam core kits on a ‘just-in-time’ basis.” Further information is available direct from: DIAB International AB, Box 201, S-312 22 LAHOLM, Sweden.
