Degussa Admixtures, supplier to the precast concrete industry, has become an affiliate member of the CarbonCast precast technologyvdeveloper, AltusGroup, to further develop the use of carbon fibre in concrete.

Degussa Admixtures supplies admixtures that enhance the performance of concrete by ensuring high strength and durability and inhibiting corrosion. Degussa is one of the industry’s leading suppliers of self-consolidating concrete (SCC), which is frequently used in CarbonCast products.

As part of AltusGroup’s industry technology partnering effort, Degussa will contribute to the development of innovations in precast concrete, currently focussing on the use of carbon fibre reinforcing to improve strength, lower weight and reduce corrosion in precast components. They will also have access to co-marketing opportunities at industry events, AltusGroup educational sessions and advertising in trade publications.

During the past three months, AltusGroup has also welcomed Gate Precast as a Senior Member and Heldenfels Enterprises, Inc. as an Associate Member – both are licensed to manufacture select CarbonCast products in particular geographies – and Sika and JVI as Industry Members – technology suppliers who contribute to the improvement of precast performance.

CarbonCast uses C-GRID, a resin-bonded carbon fibre grid, as a secondary reinforcement to replace steel mesh and shear trusses in precast concrete products such as architectural cladding, insulated sandwich wall panels, hardwall panels and double tees.
