Cytec Establish Doctorial Fellowship in Advanced Composite Studies

Cytec has established a doctorial fellowship at Florida State University (FSU), designed to encourage continued innovation and advancement in high performance materials technologies.

The Cytec Engineered Materials Doctorial Fellowship for Advanced Composite Studies will provide funding for an FSU student pursuing a PhD in materials science.

“Cytec Engineered Materials is fully committed to educational programs which are mutually beneficial for students, science and industry and we believe the High Performance Materials Institute does just that,” remarked Dr. Rob Maskell, Chief Scientist for Cytec Engineered Materials. “Aligned with our strategy to introduce innovations to enable an exponential leap in advanced composite adoption for a broad spectrum of high performance applications, we are thrilled to be able to invest in a top-notch program which will bring us even closer to realizing advanced composites technologies’ full benefits.”

According to Cytec, FSU’s High-Performance Materials Institute (HPMI) is a multidisciplinary research centre that strives to recruit, develop and retain top quality faculty and staff who will develop HPMI into a centre of excellence for research and education in the field of advanced materials. Currently, HPMI is in a unique position in specific technology areas: resin infusion between double flexible tooling (RIDFT), which is capable of rapidly and inexpensively producing composite parts in mass or for individual specifications; resin transferring moulding and vacuum-assisted resin transferring moulding (RTM/VARTM), which produces high quality composites parts and nanotube optimised for lightweight exceptional strength (NOLES), which is developing technology capable of producing amazingly strong multifunctional composites.
