Fibre processing company Cygnet Tex-Web has won a £5m contract to supply five PAN precursor creels to Jiangsu Hengshen Fiber Materials, one of the largest carbon fibre and composites manufacturers in Jiangsu Province, China.

The specialist creels with integrated handling equipment, which are manufactured under Cygnet Tex-Web’s Texkimp brand, will be used to unwind and guide PAN fibre from 250kg packages into carbon fibre production lines producing fibre for the aerospace, automotive, marine, rail, renewable energy and industrial markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

Cygnet Tex-Web’s latest generation PAN precursor driven creels are designed to deliver extremely high levels of tension control and fibre guidance to produce carbon fibre of high quality and consistency.

“We chose Cygnet Tex-Web’s creels because we were impressed by the precision and accuracy with which they handle the fibre,” explains Mr Qian from Jiangsu Hengshen Fiber Materials, which selected the technology for the company’s move from a box system to a creel and package system.

“The new creel system will enable us to continue producing the highest quality carbon fibre, but more efficiently than ever before.”

The creels are expected to be installed and commissioned in June 2013.
