Cyclics will build its first commercial production plant for high performance CBT resins in Brandenburg, Germany. Cyclics Corporation will be investing 20 million euros at the location of BASF Schwarzheide GmbH, in order to build a 100,000 square foot production plant for CBT resins, with an annual capacity of 5.5 million pounds.
This project will create a total of 51 jobs. The new commercial plant is expected to begin production by early 2004. Cyclics produces cyclic forms of PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) and therefore will take full advantage of the Schwarzheide site by utilizing locally produced PBT from the BASF production plant as a feedstock.
The patented CBT resin combines the toughness, mechanical strength and recyclability of thermoplastics, together with the advantages of very low melt viscosity and the ability to be molded in thermoset resin processing systems. As a result of their chemical resistance, heat resistance and short processing times, CBT resins have many potential applications in a broad range of markets. Currently, Cyclics products are being developed for the automobile industry, other industrial applications, and for sports and recreational equipment.
