Composites Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM) has signed a collaborative partnership agreement with Eurocopter Malaysia, a subsidiary of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space company, in a helicopter industry venture that could be worth RM150 million over the next five years.
CTRM chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Zaharudin Idrus said the partnership included the procurement, assembly, retrofit and customisation of 10 BO 105E helicopters in its RM200 million plant in Malacca before delivering them to the Malaysian armed forces.
“We are expecting a RM10 million return on the first year of operations,” the CTRM Chairman said at a signing ceremony witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Najib said the collaboration could lead to Malaysia emerging as the regional hub for the helicopter industry, as the cost of refurbishment in Malaysia was 45% cheaper compared to Europe.
Eurocopter Malaysia chairman Pierre Jaffre said the partnership also involved the delivery of 30 units of BO 105s that CTRM had booked for a total cost of over RM50 million.
