CTC Launch Composite Power Line Analysis Tool

Composite Technology Corporation (CTC) have launched a Power Line Analysis Tool, called PLAT, to measure the effectiveness of the company’s composite power cables.

Developed and engineered internally by CTC, the Windows-run software program is designed to provide Power Utilities with a disciplined and efficient method to understanding what the company believe to be “increased financial, mechanical and electrical advantages” of its proprietary ACCC cable over conventional commodity products.

“Our innovative analysis tool can now provide a planning engineer the freedom to perform detailed project analysis quickly and efficiently to confirm the advantages of our ACCC conductor technology in almost any project application.”

Specifically, PLAT features an easy-to-use graphical user interface that planning engineers, project managers and administrators can utilize to precisely model a wide array of performance and cost advantages that illustrate how the ACCC is a cost-effective and reliable solution for increased power delivery.

The PLAT software program is engineered to showcase the advantages CTC’s innovative ACCC against conventional products in such categories as Demand, Throughput, Congestion, Operating Cost/Revenue and Capital Expenditures. The program also provides the end user with a financial summary to forecast first year through 20-year outlooks.

CTC have also commenced with Uk’s Eve Group Ltd,,a subsidiary of the Babcock International Group, and leading supplier of engineering services to the power transmission industry, relating to the distribution of ACCC cable for use in the UK.

Eve has its own dedicated Innovation & Design department that focuses on researching and developing new and improved technologies that will benefit the power transmission sector, and played a fundamental role in the successful introduction of new conductor types in the past to the UK market. Eve is also a recognized provider of engineering services to the telecommunications and broadcast industries in the UK.

Following an analysis of the various technologies available, David Chesney, Director of Transmission at Eve, stated that Eve had concluded that ACCC could provide a range of conductors which would meet the needs of the UK Market.

“We believe that the use of ACCC will give our transmission operators the ability to maximize existing overhead transmission routes and create a system with redundant capacity that will offer increased flexibility. In addition we believe that ACCC offers a viable means of reconductoring existing lines with little or no changes to towers or constructing new lines with less environmental impact.” He said: “The addition of the distribution of the ACCC overhead conductor will increase the ability of Eve Group to deliver the best new technologies to our customers.”

“The UK market is important to us and we believe that CTC’s ACCC composite core conductors can fulfill an important role in the plans for Grid renewal and extension currently underway in the UK,” said Benton Wilcoxon, Composite Technology’s Chairman and CEO. “We expect the conclusion of final agreements to lead to significant sales in the UK market as the Transmission Owners renew their transmission assets.”
