Both Consuta and Renewable Advice recognise the need for Technicians with industrial experience in the of Wind energy and to develop this they have joined forces to raise the standard for operational wind turbine blade composite training: inspection and repair.
Consuta say that Renewable Advice is an established, experienced Blade Inspection and repair company with a proven track record in the field. “The need for trained field-operational technicians in Blade Inspection and Repair is an industry-wide issue. That’s why we consider creating a benchmark standard to be the way forward: standardised training with Consuta, followed by hands-on experience offered by us,” said Benn Faulkner, Director, Renewable Advice.
According to Consuta, there is a growing need for trained, knowledgeable Technicians in the field of Wind Energy and so their training experts have developed a series of training courses to meet the requirements of industry and have received additional approval of their courses by ‘Composites UK’, the UK’s composites trade association. They are also currently working with Germanischer Lloyd on the approval of the syllabus to ensure wider coverage in the industry.
Consuta runs a range of courses from Introduction to Blade Inspection to Wind Energy Master Technician. Each of these courses has a practical and theory end test, each level must be obtained along with 500 hrs of experience before signing up to the next level.
“As the industry continues to grow, courses of this type and industrial experience are vital to developing the skills required. We believe that the industry as a whole needs a method to be able to understand the competence of an individual wishing to join the industry,” said Dave Reece, Director, Renewable Advice.
“If the UK is to meet the future increase in Blade Maintenance then it requires training and education in this area. Currently there are not enough skilled people to meet the current needs and therefore training is the part of this solution. The close working relationship between Consuta Training and Renewable Advice is the start of filling that need,” concluded Chris Little, Owner, Consuta Training Ltd.
