The ‘Composites on Tour’ mobile exhibition is visiting the UK from August 25th to September 9th, enabling visitors to experience for themselves what these materials are.
The touring truck itself is also made of composites and is a world premier. The exhibition gives visitors the answers to questions such as: What are these materials we call composites? Why do we use them? What do they look like? What do they feel like? How are they made? It shows for example the javelin from the current world record holder, a unique violin made of carbon composite to a futuristic composite bike and many more can be found in the exhibition. Visitors even get the chance to stretch your muscles on a composite fitness machine!
25th-28th August, Imperial College, London
29th August – 1st September, Williamson Square, Liverpool
2nd-3rd September, Fargate, Sheffield
4th – 9th September, EXPLORE @, Bristol
The truck has been touring throughout Europe since it was launched on June 3rd in Belgium at the 10th ECCM conference in Bruges. So far it has visited Spain, France, Belgium and Denmark and will go to Switzerland, Holland and Italy in the autumn. The whole project is funded by the EU under the framework of raising public awareness of science and technology.
All the events in this programme will culminate in Brussels during European Science and Technology Week (4th-11th November). The UK Centre for Materials Education (University of Liverpool) is one of seven European partners involved in this project, along with Belgium Holland and Italy.
