China’s largest fiberglass production line, with an annual capacity of 18,000 tons, has been put into operation at the Chongqing Polycomp International Corporation.

It cost the company, a joint venture between China, the United States and Saudi Arabia, 320 million yuan (38.6 million U.S. dollars) to build the production line. The company is also planning to set up a fiberglass industrial park with a production capacity of 100,000 tons a year by 2005, and make it one of the top ten fiberglass makers in Asia.

China has 150 fiberglass plants with a combined output of 230,000 tons. But the domestic demand is expected to rise faster than that in the international market with the launch of a giant south-north water diversion project and the rapid development of the automotive and information industries.
