CFM Launches Composites eLearning Channel on YouTube

The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Centre for Future Materials (CFM) has launched an eLearning YouTube channel designed to introduce fibre composites to newcomers.

The videos give a basic overview on various pieces of equipment, so that the viewer can decide whether they’d like to undertake further training on specific pieces of equipment. 25 videos provide an overview on composite material manufacturing, composites testing and polymer testing.

The need for high-level training introduction videos arose to reduce periodic inductions when new researchers first joined the centre, CFM explains. After a large internal uptake, it decided to release the series through YouTube for the composites community to utilise.

“We are delighted to share the eLearning resource on YouTube,” says CFM Director Professor Peter Schubel. “It will enhance the universal access to teaching and learning on composite material and support the training of polymer composite engineers into a high-growth manufacturing sector.”

CFM reports that it has received a positive response, with numerous companies and institutions, including universities, technology centres and government agencies, incorporating the videos into their learning resources. Target audiences include researchers, undergraduate students, school teachers and students, and professionals in the composites industry.
