The 5th International CFK-Valley Stade Convention that took place on 7-8 June in Stade attracted interest from 438 participants, 20% of which were international guests.

CFK believe the exhibition was fully booked because of high interest in its focus; ‘Automation, Simulation, Processes and Material Innovations’.

Professor Axel Herrmann, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CFK-Valley opened the 2-day lecture series and emphasised the issue of cost reduction “In order to replace as many metal parts as possible with this material of the future, costs must be reduced considerably – particularly if we want to enter other braches in addition to the aerospace industry”. He pointed to milestones in the achievement of this objective, such as the opening of CFK-NORD, carbon fibre research centre last year and, during the evening event, participants of the convention could obtain information on current CFK-NORD projects.

The convention also featured the “Composite Innovations Award 2011” which is endowed with a scholarship valued at €18,000 for composite courses that culminates with a Master of Science at the Private University of Applied Sciences, Göttingen, Germany. This year’s winner was ZF Lemdörfer for its project “Hybrid Brake Pedal in Connection with Continuous Fibre-Reinforced Polymer”.
