Together with an international group of companies and research institutions, German fibre patch placement specialist Cevotec has launched the Singapore-based Composite Application Centre (CAC)

Bringing together representatives of all stages of the composites value chain, including materials, software, equipment, process technologies, as well as manufacturing and product development, CAC will aim to provide a platform for developers and users of composite technologies, focusing on customer trials, prototyping, pilot manufacturing, maintenance training and support services. Companies can leverage CAC’s expertise and facilities to reduce initial investments and risk for composite-related product design and manufacturing. Manufacturers will be able to utilise CAC’s support to build or expand their composite manufacturing capabilities.

“CAC offers a great opportunity to introduce our composite 4.0 technology to the Asian market,” states Thorsten Groene, Managing Director of Cevotec. “As a truly innovative automation solution fibre patch placement has the potential to revolutionise the Asian composites industry that is still dominated by manual fibre lay-up.”

Cevotec’s CAE software platform ARTIST STUDIO in combination with the flexible SAMBA Series lay-up system offer a continuous production chain from CAD to final laminate, enabling Asian manufacturers to jumpstart design and prototype production with the support of the Composite Application Centre.

Cevotec says the centre will collaborate with other international leaders in composites research, to tap into the latest technologies and create best of industry solutions. By working closely with regional education and training centres CAC will support a sustainable talent pool and skilled workforce.

Founded at the Germany-Singapore Business Forum at Hannover Fair, the group, spearheaded by Composite Cluster Singapore, currently consists of ten companies and two research entities:

  • Admiralty International – composite manufacturing;
  • Cevotec – advanced fibre lay-up equipment & software;
  • Composite Cluster Singapore – composite engineering and manufacturing solutions;
  • Covestro – materials;
  • Fraunhofer IGCV – applied R&D;
  • Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme – machining tools;
  • iNDTact – sensor systems & data analytics;
  • Plasmatreat – plasma equipment;
  • Sakura Tech – plastics manufacturing & tooling;
  • Singapore Polytechnic’s School of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering – education & research;
  • Stratagem Innovation Singapore – composite repair, inspection & training;
  • Filacon Systems by Tajima – advanced preforming equipment.

CAC is now open and will ramp-up activities and capabilities throughout 2018. Additional companies are slated to join later in the year.

Companies interested in utilising CAC’s capabilities or collaborating as a partner should contact Dr Florian Doetzer at CAC@compositecluster.com.
