A call for papers is being issued for a special issue of the International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), focussing on the Design and Manufacturing of Land Transport Structures Using Composite Materials.
Aims of the Special Issue
The use of composite materials for transport structures and components has been steadily increasing over the last fifty years. This has been due to their high specific mechanical properties and their manufacturing and cost advantages. Whilst adoption has been significant in areas such as aerospace and niche automotive vehicles (e.g. high performance sports cars), their use in more general land transport applications has been somewhat limited. As performance factors such as weight reduction, increased capacity, improved fuel efficiency, enhanced crashworthiness and reduced emissions become increasingly critical, there is a great interest in extending the use of composites throughout the land transport sectors. The aim of this special issue is to provide a forum for industry and academia to review current developments and explore new approaches and technologies.
Papers are invited on all topics relating to the use of composite materials (e.g. fibre reinforced plastics, sandwich structures, metal matrix composites, nanomaterial fillers, etc.) for land transport applications.
Relevant aspects might include, but are not restricted to:
Standards and testing
Simulation and virtual prototyping
Optimisation for lightweighting
Fire, smoke and toxicity
Recycling of end of life vehicles
General state of the art reviews
Contributions are welcome in the form of original and review papers, technical reports and case studies relating to the use of composites in any land transport application (passenger cars, buses, lorries, trailers, trains, trams, etc.).
The preparation of the manuscript should be performed in accordance with the “notes for intending authors”, which can be found on the back cover of any issue of IJVD or at http://www.inderscience.com. Each paper will be refereed by two experts in the field. High quality papers not relevant for the special issue may be considered for publication in regular issues of IJVD.
