Composites UK has secured the support of British Marine for its next sector showcase Composite Materials in Marine Applications.

The event, which will attract around 100 delegates, takes place on 11 October 2017 at Southampton Football Club and will welcome companies from across the supply chain – from manufacturers of fibre reinforced polymer composites (FRPs), to designers, consultants and end users. It will also serve to facilitate knowledge transfer between industry and academia.

“Having the support of British Marine for this event means we are able to connect the composites community with end users, discovering the needs of boat builders when using FRPs, what challenges are faced and future opportunities where the properties of the materials could be utilised,” says Claire Whysall, Communications Manager at Composites UK. “This partnership will also open the door to future conversations between members of both organisations, particularly in relation to standards and design.”

“Composites play such an important part right across our industry, so we are delighted to be working with Composites UK to further both our members’ and the wider marine industry’s understanding of the opportunities for composites development,” states Ross Wombwell, British Marine’s Technical Manager. “I am really looking forward to speaking to and hearing from other sectors, and learning from their experiences, and I encourage all our members with an interest in composites use to sign up and attend.”

The event programme will include presentations from OEMs/Tier 1 companies, information on standards, design and testing, and learning from other industries – particularly motorsport via the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) and its ‘Motorsport to Marine’ initiative. Case studies and current project work will also be included.

Delegate discounts are available for Composites UK, British Marine and MIA members.
