The Composites Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) recently named Creig Bowland, Research Associate for PPG Industries’ Fiber Glass Business, as “Composites Person of the Year.”

The award was presented during the 12th annual SPE Automotive Composites Conference & Exhibition (ACCE) in Troy, Mich. The “Composites Person of the Year” award acknowledges individuals who have provided significant guidance and support to the Composites Division of the SPE and who have made important contributions to the composites industry as a whole.

Bowland’s professional expertise is in application development and design of long fibre thermoplastic (LFT) composites for structural automotive parts, and he has worked for more than 20 years in the composite industry. He designed and developed the long fibre compounding technology PPG offers to its customers.

“Creig has a genuine commitment to the composites industry,” said Paul Westbrook, PPG Science and Technology Director for Fiber Glass. “As a member of our research and development team, he utilises his knowledge, background and expertise in composites to become a trusted partner and solution provider to our customers. Being recognised as the 2012 SPE ‘Composites Person of the Year’ is a prestigious and worthy commendation for Creig.”

Bowland has been an active member of the SPE Composites Division since 1990, serving as chair of the organisation from 1992-1994, SPE ACCE event chair in 2011 and 2012 and SPE ACCE technical program co-chair in 2010.
