Base Group has secured a Smart Award from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) to further its technical development and research into innovative processes for the impregnation of technical fibres.

The project is anticipated to take two years before full commercialisation, and will see an investment in excess of £1.2 million. The company says that this forms part of its long-term growth strategy and will position it as a global supplier to the composites industry, supporting the entire manufacturing cycle across multiple market sectors.

Over the past three years, Base Group has implemented a vertical-integration programme, providing technical products such as formulated resin systems; model and tooling boards; pre-impregnated fabrics; and surface coatings. Furthermore, the company’s clients engineering needs can be met through its state-of-the-art five-axis machining facility.

The TSB Smart scheme is a competitive process, supporting projects that have the potential to offer significant rewards to stimulate UK economic growth through innovation in technology, science or engineering.

The Smart Award allows Base Group to create employment opportunities within the East Midlands and further support the UK in leading-edge manufacturing.

Commercial Director, Samantha Littler said, “This is an exciting time within Base Group, and this announcement will strengthen our product and service offering as well as enable the commercial team to maximise customer lifetime value.”
