BAE Systems awards contract to Malaysia’s CTRM for A380 wing manufacture

Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM) said it has secured a 139 mln rgt contract from BAE Systems PLC’s Aerostructures unit to manufacture wing components for the Airbus super-jumbo A380 aircraft.

Abdul Malek Packeer, chief executive officer of the Malaysian company said that the contract was for the production of two packages of the Airbus A380 wing components over a eight year period.

The contract covers delivery of wing components made of carbon and glass fibres composites, he said.

Airbus has secured 100 orders for the A380 model so far, with Singapore Airlines Ltd and Dubai’s Emirates to be the first carriers to use the aircraft.

Malaysia’s Defence Minister Najib Razak, who witnessed the signing ceremony said that the contract strengthened CTRM’s position as a key aerospace composites component supplier in the Asia-Pacific region.
