Aztex Inc. is a recipient of this years prestigious Robert L. Pinckney Award to be presented by the American Helicopter Society in Montreal on 12th June.

Aztex was part of a technology team assembled by Sikorsky to develop new cost and weight saving initiatives for helicopters. This is the first time a Sikorsky team has won this award.

Aztex’ X-Cor will save a minimum of 10 -15% weight against a Korex honeycomb stiffened structure. In addition Aztex will supply a fully finished part, cut to final shape with all necessary local reinforcement. The customers will not need to supply hard copy drawings as Aztex equipment can receive computer code and post-process this directly on its production equipment. The cost savings associated with this process route are very high and changes to design can be rapidly accommodated as no tooling is required.

New equipment to supply production quantities of X-Cor will be commissioned in June at Aztex’ facility in Waltham, MA. Early customers will include helicopter programs and the Formula 1 race car companies who have found X-Cor to be very damage tolerant.

Aztex’ President Tony Bonnington says that the current order book for its products is growing fast and that other announcements are imminent.
