Automated Dynamics recently delivered its ATL-1117 Automated Tape Laying machine to a Tier Two Supplier, for the layup of the flight deck floor on Boeing’s 787 commercial aircraft.
By adjusting the size of the machine to fit a more appropriate work envelope for the customer’s applications, the cost of the machine was significantly lower than industry-typical tape layers. This ATL has a 3-Inch thermoset material processing head and the workcell envelope is 11.0ft (3.3m) by 17.5ft (5.3m). The Automated Dynamics FPM software utilizes a simple 2D part boundary definition function and ply table entry format to enable highly efficient programming.
Throughput has been optimized to fit a specific, demanding production schedule. By automating composite layup, the customer is able to achieve a consistent, high quality product that meets the end user’s specifications. Automated Dynamics say that the low price combined with materials and labour savings will allow the customer to achieve a short term ROI atypical of capital composites automation investment.
