The Audi R8 GT Spyder has reduced its weight and increased performance, which Audi claim is partly due to carbon fibre body parts.
According to Audi, the front spoiler, the fixed rear spoiler and the new rear bumper as well as the long cover over the soft-top compartment, and the large side panels at the rear have all been made using carbon fibre, providing a weight saving of 5.5kg. They say the bucket seat chassis were made of glass fibre reinforced polymer which saved 31.5kg. Audi claim the reduction in weight across the car has lead to increased speed.
