Audi has created the concept for an electric urban car, benefitting from lightweight CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic).
The car has 1+1 seats, free-standing wheels with protective plate and, according to Audi, the technology in the concept reflects their full capabilities, especially when it comes to ultra-lightweight construction. They explain that the cockpit consists of CFRP, which integrates the undercarriage of both seats. The car was designed to combine elements of a racing car, a roadster, a fun car and an urban car into one concept.
Audi say they based the development of their concept car on strict principles of lightweight construction, efficiency and reduction. They recently partnered with Voith to promote industrialisation of fiber-reinforced materials through developing a highly automated process chain for high-volume automotive production.
