Alliant Techsystems (ATK) has received a $6 million contract from Vought Aircraft Industries to produce the first production lot of composite redesigned wing parts and assemblies for Northrop Grumman’s Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Production of the 56 feet long composite wing structures will take place at ATK facilities in Clearfield, Utah, Miss. and Rocket Center, W.Va.

Armed forces increasingly depend on UAVs to provide timely and accurate intelligence without putting pilots in harms way. Global Hawk will benefit from the strength, flexibility and lightweight design of ATK’s composite wings and assemblies.

The contract follows ATK’s January announcement that it is fabricating composite upper-wing skins for the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter.
