Ashland Performance Materials participated in the Boat Xperience boat show, which took place January 25 -29 in Guarujá, São Paulo, in partnership with Barracuda, its distributor for the marine market.

According to Ashland, they displayed more than ten products, including resins and gelcoats, skin coat, barrier coat, infusion resins, and structural adhesives.

“The special service to the marine industry is part of Ashland’s strategy to position ourselves as a global leader of specialty chemicals. It is undoubtedly a key market for our company,” said David Britto, Marketing Manager/Marine.

Ashland explain that during the Boat Xperience, Jorge Nasseh, Chief Engineer of Barracuda and a leading expert in shipbuilding in the South America, presented enriching material about the infusion process. Throughout the training, Barracuda´s team infused a 18-foot hull with Aropol INF 65470 Q, which was launched by Ashland by the end of last year and replaced Arazyn 14.0.

“By presenting a lower rate of contraction and consequently, reducing the print through, Aropol Q 65470 INF further enhances the cosmetic properties of the laminate,” said Britto. Ashland say that highlights of the product also include the superior wettability and flow rates, which accelerate the completion of the entire mould cavity during the infusion, improving productivity. “We also get an incredible reduction in time required for the development of Barcol Hardness (over 40), which further increases productivity and improves the mechanical strength and fatigue.”

After the lecture, Barracuda was honoured by Ashland with the delivery of a board, in reference to their role in the technological development of Brazil’s composite materials. “Barracuda is aligned with our company policy of continuous innovation, which is priority for Ashland,” concludes Britto.
